My two year old presa female is the best dog I've ever owned but you must know it is not a week that goes by that she does not test my alpha status. And you can NEVER let them win. It's just what/who they are. She tests my status, and not because I give her reason to do so.

Other than that, this dog is absolutely fantastic. Period.

If you understand their need for a dominant owner and can provide that, these dogs will always surprise.

I'm getting my Presa Canario in about a week!

They are fascinating. It was between that and a Cane Corso. Tough Choice.

I choose the Presa due to its more unique status. As of 2010 only about 4,000 are in the US. I like she'll be unique. As well as powerful and beautiful.

Thanks for your comment Lori! It seems like you have become real experts at how to raise several dogs and children at the same time! Totally agree with your approach about responsible ownership, hope more and more people will follow suit.

My family and i just brought home a 15mo old female canary dog that we adopted from a breeder. I am writing this because i am very impressed with how well and fast she has adapted from the kennel life to a house dog she is suspious and curious at the same time she is loving with the famiy which includes a 5 yr old boy who is not calm at all him self and a 7 yr old girl. We also have 3 other dogs that some consider the gladiator breeds we have 2 english mastiffs and a cane corso they all get along wonderfully. I will say that she has not chosen just one person to attach to but it seems to be the whole family rather than just one although she knows who the "alpha" is. I am very excited and happy that she seems to be good hearted and good natured. she does need a firm voice and rules. When rewarded with treats and a scratch or two she learns very quick. i will say that these dogs demand respect and should get it and that goes for all dogs not just canary dogs. YOU must be a responsible pet owner to have a well rounded and socialized pet.

I, too, use a pit-bull who will be the most caring animal I have ever owned. Soon, a fresh dog breed will occur along to the media to blast, as they have done rotties and dobies in past years. Unfortunate that media sensationalism breeds much inaccurate details.
